Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has released patch 1.0.1, addressing player feedback following the game's full launch. The patch, available for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck, is the first in a series aimed at improving the game based on feedback gathered during the advanced access period. Steam user reviews during this period were mixed, with common criticisms focusing on the user interface, limited map variety, and missing features.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN, acknowledged the negative press and player reviews, but expressed confidence that the established Civilization fanbase would appreciate the game more with continued play, describing the early performance as "very encouraging."
This initial patch, however, temporarily disables cross-play multiplayer between PC and console players to streamline PC updates. This will not affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer.
The patch notes detail numerous fixes and improvements across various aspects of the game:
Gameplay:
- Resolved an issue causing shortened Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
- City-States now transition into Friendly Independent Powers instead of disappearing at Age transitions, starting with more units in Exploration and Modern Ages.
- Naval combat inconsistencies have been addressed, improving combat strength values, reciprocal damage, and tile movement after combat.
- Completing a Legacy Path milestone no longer grants Modern Age progress, allowing more time for victory completion.
- Towns automatically revert to growth focus if their chosen focus becomes ineligible.
- The "Future Civic" is now repeatable in all Ages, with increased costs for repeated use.
- Fixed an issue where excessive growth bonuses resulted in negative food requirements.
- Rail network reliability improved for settlements connected over water via Ports.
- Loyalty Crisis adjustments in the Antiquity Age include the ability to purchase Villas.
AI:
- AI will less frequently offer high-value cities during peace deals.
- Reduced AI war declarations at the start of the Modern Age.
- AI now considers Ideology more heavily before declaring war or offering peace.
- Adjusted AI war and peace desires based on opposing ideologies.
Camera:
- Fixed a camera focusing issue on native resolutions.
UI:
- Replaced the Simplified Chinese font (temporary, pending further improvements).
- Resolved issues with the Settlement menu, yield icons, and cut-off text on various screens.
- Added notifications for completed espionage actions.
- Fixed issues with city project purchaseability, religion display, district health bars, leader portraits, and color customization.
- Improved alignment and spacing in various UI elements.
This patch represents the first step in Firaxis's commitment to addressing player concerns and enhancing the Civilization 7 experience. Further patches are expected.
