Pocketpair, the developer behind Palworld, has officially quashed rumors of a shift to a free-to-play (F2P) or games-as-a-service (GaaS) model. Recent reports suggested the studio was exploring these options, but a statement on Twitter (X) clarified their position.
Palworld Remains Buy-to-Play
The Palworld team definitively stated: "We are not changing our game’s business model; it will remain buy-to-play and not F2P or GaaS." This follows an interview where the developers discussed potential future directions for the game. While they acknowledged exploring various options to ensure Palworld's longevity, they ultimately decided against an F2P/GaaS model. They explained that this approach wasn't initially part of Palworld's design and adapting it would be excessively demanding, contradicting player preferences.
Pocketpair emphasized their commitment to delivering the best possible Palworld experience, apologizing for any concerns caused by previous reports. They reiterated their player-centric approach, stating that the F2P/GaaS model was deemed unsuitable. Future development will focus on maintaining the current buy-to-play structure.
The studio is now exploring alternative methods to fund ongoing development, mentioning the possibility of future DLC and cosmetic skins. Further details on these plans will be shared at a later date. The team confirmed their dedication to providing new content, including additional Pals and raid bosses, as previously hinted.
Separately, a potential PS5 version of Palworld appeared on a preliminary list of titles for Tokyo Game Show 2024 (TGS 2024). However, it's important to note that this list, published by CESA, is not considered definitive confirmation.
