Deltarune Chapter 4 Development Update: Almost Ready, But Not Quite

Toby Fox, creator of Undertale, recently shared a progress update on Deltarune in his newsletter. While Chapter 4 is nearing completion, a release date for Chapters 3 and 4 (slated for simultaneous release on PC, Switch, and PS4) remains elusive.

Fox confirmed that all Chapter 4 maps are finished and battles are playable, but polishing is still underway. Minor adjustments to cutscenes, battle balancing, visuals, and ending sequences are needed. Despite this, he considers the chapter largely playable and has received positive feedback from playtesters.

The multi-platform and multilingual release presents significant challenges, especially since this is the first major paid release since Undertale. Fox emphasizes the need for a polished product. Before release, the team must complete several key tasks: testing new features, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and rigorous bug testing.

Chapter 3 development is complete, and early work on Chapter 5 has even begun! The newsletter offered a glimpse into upcoming content, including dialogue between Ralsei and Rouxls, a character description for Elnina, and a new item: GingerGuard.

While the wait is understandably frustrating for fans, Fox assures them that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will be longer than Chapters 1 and 2, and that future chapter releases should be more streamlined once this milestone is reached. No firm release date has been announced.
