Rebel Wolves studio has unveiled details about their upcoming vampire RPG, highlighting the central theme of duality in their protagonist. Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz describes the character as a modern-day Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, a concept largely unexplored in video games. This duality, he believes, will offer a unique and surreal gaming experience.
Tomaszkiewicz also discussed the challenge of balancing the character's human and supernatural sides. Players will experience periods where the protagonist is a powerless human, creating a stark contrast with their vampiric alter-ego. This design requires careful consideration, as the absence of familiar RPG elements could confuse players accustomed to established mechanics.
The developers face the ongoing dilemma of innovating while respecting genre conventions. Tomaszkiewicz cites Kingdom Come: Deliverance's controversial schnapps-dependent save system as an example of how even seemingly minor changes can generate significant player feedback. Striking a balance between innovation and player expectations is crucial for the game's success.
The gameplay premiere is slated for Summer 2025.
