Summary

  • Smite 2's free-to-play open beta is now live on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Steam Deck.
  • A new patch introduces Aladdin, a brand-new god, and other exciting content.
  • The popular 3v3 Joust mode returns, and ambitious new content is planned for 2025.

Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular third-person MOBA, has launched its free-to-play open beta on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Epic Games Store and Steam), and Steam Deck. This launch coincides with a major patch from Titan Forge Games, introducing new gods, game modes, and more.

Revealed a year ago and built using Unreal Engine 5, Smite 2 boasts significant improvements over its predecessor. Expect refined visuals, enhanced combat mechanics, and a revamped item shop offering greater item diversity regardless of god choice. Gameplay retains the core Smite experience: players choose gods from various mythologies to engage in 5v5 battles, vying for map control and ultimately, victory. Following a successful closed alpha, the game is now open to all players.

Starting January 14th, players can download Smite 2's open beta for free. This update introduces Aladdin, a completely new god designed specifically for Smite 2. Utilizing his unique abilities, Aladdin can traverse walls and even revive after death thanks to his companion's three wishes. His ultimate ability involves capturing enemies within his lamp, forcing a thrilling 1v1 duel.

Smite 2's Free-to-Play Open Beta: New Content Highlights

  • 5 new gods, including Aladdin, a ground-up creation for Smite 2.
  • The return of the beloved 3v3 Joust mode.
  • A brand-new Arthurian-themed map.
  • Updates to the Conquest map.
  • An alpha version of the Assault game mode.
  • New optional enhancements (Aspects) for select gods.
  • Available for free download on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), and Steam Deck.

The new gods joining the Smite 2 roster include Geb (Egyptian God of Earth), Mulan (Chinese Ascendant Warrior), Agni (Hindu Pantheon), and Ullr (Norse Pantheon). In addition to the new gods, the popular Joust mode makes a comeback, offering 3v3 battles on a smaller map. The Conquest and Assault game modes are also included in the open beta.

Titan Forge Games' creative director has stated that Smite 2 is demonstrably superior to its predecessor in many aspects. The team expressed gratitude for player feedback gathered during the closed alpha, and promised ambitious new content for Smite 2 throughout 2025.

While available on most major platforms, Smite 2 is currently absent from the Nintendo Switch. The developers previously cited concerns about performance on the current hardware, but remain open to bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch 2 in the future. For now, Smite fans on other platforms can jump into the open beta and experience the sequel firsthand.
