Shrek 5's New Look Is So Divisive, Even Movie Sonic Has Commented On It

Shrek 5 has unveiled its new cast in a brand-new teaser trailer, prompting even Movie Sonic to offer some unsolicited design advice.

In a humorous TikTok video, the official Sonic Movie account shared a "how-to" guide for green ogres, showcasing Sonic's own transformation from his initially criticized live-action design to his much-improved redesign.

IGN's exclusive first look at the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie in 2018 sparked a mixed reaction, with fans voicing concerns about the character's teeth, physique, eyes, and fingers. Following the negative feedback, director Jeff Fowler redesigned the character, resulting in a significantly more positive response.

While the reaction to Shrek's new look is less intense than Sonic's initial debut, Sonic's playful TikTok post has amused fans. Comments included, "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," and "No way they actually posted this 😭."

Initially announced in 2016, Shrek 5's development was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, in 2023, alongside plans for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures shifted Shrek 5's release date to December 23, 2026, moving it from the original slot occupied by Minions 3.
