Will Wright, the mastermind behind The Sims, recently offered a deeper look into his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream. This innovative title, initially unveiled in 2018, is finally gaining momentum, with Gallium Studio, Wright's new studio, steadily moving towards its release.
A More Personal Simulation Experience
The livestream, hosted by BreakthroughT1D (a leading T1D research organization), provided a platform for Wright to discuss Proxi's unique approach to life simulation. The game's core mechanic revolves around interactive memories. Players input personal memories as text, and Proxi transforms them into animated scenes within a customizable 3D environment.
Wright explained that each memory ("mem") contributes to training the game's AI, expanding the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D space composed of hexagons. This world populates with "Proxies" representing friends and family as the player adds more memories. These memories, arranged on a timeline, connect to Proxies, reconstructing the context of each recollection. Remarkably, Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, including Minecraft and Roblox!
The goal, according to Wright, is to create "magical connections" with memories, bringing them to life in a deeply personal way. This focus on the player's own experiences is intentional: "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player," Wright commented, adding with a laugh, "The more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements expected soon.
