Phantom Blade Zero Development Updates
Phantom Blade Zero Not A Soulslike, Features Four Difficulty Options
Recent reports have confirmed that Phantom Blade Zero will include four difficulty levels: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. Although fans initially compared the game to Soulslike titles due to its aesthetic and combat style showcased during the PlayStation Showcase 2023, the introduction of multiple difficulty options distinguishes it from the typically challenging Soulslike genre.
Game Director Soulframe addressed these comparisons in an official tweet following the game's appearance at Summer Game Fest 2024. He emphasized that "making another soulslike" was never their intention. Instead, the team aims to deliver "combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating."
While Phantom Blade Zero draws inspiration from Soulslike games in terms of its multi-layered maps, multiple approach paths, and hidden areas, Soulframe clarified that the similarities end there. He described the game as featuring "Ninja Gaiden combat on a Souls game map," blending intense hack-and-slash action with expansive exploration.
Gameplay Features With Over 30+ Weapons, 20-30 Hours of Playthrough, And More
Further details from recent interviews reveal that Phantom Blade Zero will offer players a choice of over 30 primary and 20 secondary weapons, each with unique effects and gameplay mechanics. The game is expected to provide a main story playthrough of 20-30 hours, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content.
Boss fights in Phantom Blade Zero will feature at least two phases. If a player dies during the second phase, they can restart from that point, skipping the first phase. A new game mode, "Li Wulin," allows players to battle previously defeated bosses, unlocking new hidden bosses to conquer.
Additionally, there's a mechanic that influences the game's ending, though details on how it affects the playthrough and the number of alternate endings remain undisclosed.
