Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced that it will be closing its doors and canceling its FPS game, Deadrop. The studio shared the news on a post on X, stating, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." They also reached out to the gaming community, asking if any studios are hiring and could offer employment opportunities to their team members.
Midnight Society was established by Beahm, alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, known for their work on games like Call of Duty and Halo. Their first project, Deadrop, was envisioned as a free-to-play FPS that would leverage the team's extensive experience. Although Deadrop aimed for a 2024 release, it unfortunately missed its target.

In 2024, Midnight Society parted ways with Beahm after he admitted to exchanging messages with a minor through Twitch's Whispers feature, some of which were deemed inappropriate. Despite this split, the studio continued to work on Deadrop until its closure this year.
Deadrop was set in a unique universe where "the 80s never ended," featuring characters with Daft Punk-like helmets wielding guns and swords. The gameplay was planned as a PvPvE style extraction shooter, promising an engaging experience for players.
The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of studios facing closure or layoffs during this challenging period for the gaming industry. Other affected companies include Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and many more, highlighting the difficulties faced by the sector.
