Nintendo's Alarmo: Wider Release and Enhanced Features
Nintendo's innovative alarm clock, Alarmo, is slated for a broader retail release in March 2025, as announced via their official Twitter (X) account. This expanded distribution will make the device available to a wider audience at major retailers globally, including Target, Walmart, GameStop, and other authorized vendors.
A key change is the removal of the Nintendo Online membership requirement. Alarmo will be accessible to all for $99.99 USD. This announcement follows the device's initial release, which saw immediate popularity resulting in sell-outs and a lottery system implemented in Japan to manage demand.
The high demand, including a sell-out in New York City shortly after its October 9th, 2024 launch, highlights Alarmo's appeal. While this initial success overshadowed the anticipated Switch 2 announcement, Nintendo remains silent on the next-generation console.
Alarmo boasts a unique blend of gaming nostalgia and practical functionality. Featuring sound effects and visuals from popular Nintendo franchises like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Splatoon 3, it offers 42 selectable scenes with more promised via free updates (including Animal Crossing: New Horizons).
The alarm experience is interactive. A game character appears on screen, gently waking you with sounds. A "visitor" then arrives, and subtle movement dismisses the alarm. Persistent slumber brings a more insistent visitor and amplified sounds. The motion sensor allows for alarm dismissal without touching the device.
Beyond the core alarm function, Alarmo offers hourly chimes, sleep sounds themed to the selected scene, and sleep pattern tracking. For shared beds or pet owners, a "Button Mode" is recommended.
The expanded release in March 2025 promises to make this unique alarm clock more widely available to Nintendo fans and beyond.
