Firaxis Delays Civ 7's Inaugural In-Game Event to Prioritize Quality of Life Enhancements
Civilization 7's highly anticipated first in-game event will be postponed to allow Firaxis Games to focus on crucial quality-of-life improvements. This decision was announced in a February 28, 2025 development update, outlining the roadmap for upcoming patches.
The update, version 1.1.0, launches March 4, 2025, on PC and major consoles (with a separate Nintendo Switch release schedule). While the "Natural Wonder Battle" event was initially slated for this release, Firaxis prioritised player feedback regarding the game's UI and overall experience. The statement confirmed the event's postponement, promising further details at a later date.
Update 1.1.0: Addressing Player Feedback
Update 1.1.0 directly addresses community concerns. Key improvements include:
- The addition of a new, free natural wonder: the Bermuda Triangle.
- Significant UI enhancements, addressing prevalent player criticisms.
- Substantial changes to the Modern Age's Cultural Legacy Path and Victory conditions, improving AI performance in achieving Cultural Victories.
- The release of the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection for owners of relevant editions.
March 25th Update and Beyond: Continued Refinements
A further major update is planned for March 25, 2025 (subject to change), continuing the focus on UI improvements. This is part of a larger, multi-month plan to refine the user interface.
Future updates will introduce additional features, including:
- A "one more turn" option extending gameplay beyond the Modern Age.
- Auto-explore functionality.
- New map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch).
- Multiplayer enhancements.
Firaxis acknowledges that some features, such as those listed above, will take longer to implement and test. They assure players of continued updates and appreciate their patience.
