For those eagerly awaiting news of The Last of Us Part 3, series creator Neil Druckmann has delivered a disheartening update. In a recent interview with Variety, primarily focused on the TV series, Druckmann effectively dashed hopes of a third game. When asked about the possibility, he sighed and stated, “I was waiting for this question… I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”
While Druckmann's statement is definitive, some may remain unconvinced. Naughty Dog is currently developing Intergalactic, a game announced at The Game Awards 2022, with no release date currently set. The studio's focus on this new project suggests The Last of Us Part 3 is unlikely in the near future. Druckmann's comments could be strategic ambiguity, or a genuine reflection of his current intentions. Only time will tell.
However, for fans craving more Last of Us content, the second season of the HBO Max television series premieres April 13th. While the total number of seasons remains unconfirmed, an HBO executive suggested four seasons might cover the story of Part 2.
