In *Avowed*, one of the early pivotal choices you'll face is whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas. This decision can lead to a variety of outcomes, ranging from bad to worse, with one option being somewhat positive. Here's a detailed guide on what happens depending on your choice.
What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
When you refuse to give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis, the game makes it clear that this decision will lead to a confrontation. True to his threat, Sargamis engages you in combat, presenting himself as an optional boss with a significant health bar. This fight can be challenging early in the game.
During the battle, Sargamis calls upon two spirit creatures to assist him, though they primarily focus on Kai rather than you. He uses swift thrusting attacks with his sword, enabling him to close distances quickly. However, he is susceptible to freezing, making ice spells an effective strategy to slow him down.
Victory over Sargamis rewards you with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique-class weapon that not only restores three percent of your health upon defeating an enemy but also adds a ten percent bonus to fire damage on your attacks.
What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
If you decide to give the Splinter to Sargamis, you're presented with several subsequent choices. Initially, you can choose to change your mind, which will prompt Sargamis to attack you. Alternatively, you can:
- Persuade him to enter the statue: This results in his death and you acquiring the Last Light of Day.
- Offer yourself to the statue: You have two paths here. Stand in the circle as instructed, and you'll die, earning the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Upon reloading *Avowed*, you'll restart at the point before entering the circle. If you step out of the circle when Sargamis tells you to stay still, he'll attack you in a rage.

How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed
The optimal way to handle the situation with the Splinter of Eothas is to convince Sargamis that his plan is doomed to fail. To access these dialogue options, you need an Intellect stat of 4 or higher. Consider using our *Avowed* respec guide if you need to adjust your attribute points.
Place the Splinter in the statue before speaking with Sargamis, activate the machine, and then talk to him once it fails. Persuade him that his plan won't succeed, and he will abandon it. The Court Augur and Arcane Scholar background options facilitate this path, though each background might offer similar choices.
Guide Sargamis towards understanding that Eothas is gone, but avoid the intellect option about live soul transfer. Once he leaves, decide whether to allow the voice to use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, find Sargamis in his quarters and speak with him to conclude this part of the Dawntreader quest, earning more experience than if you had fought or given him the Splinter.
