Deadlock Announces Major Update In Months
Four-lane Map Becomes Three Lanes
Deadlock's latest major update simplifies its map structure by reducing the number of lanes from four to three. Valve shared the full details of this map rework on Steam on February 26, 2025, along with adjustments to other game mechanics.
The redesign includes a comprehensive overhaul, transforming the four lanes into three and introducing "a large range of accompanying map-wide changes regarding visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, mid boss, etc." Deadlock, known for its unique third-person perspective in the MOBA genre, aims to streamline gameplay with this change.
Additionally, the update modifies the farming mechanics for enemy troopers. Players no longer need to last-hit enemies to summon Soul Orbs, making early laning phases more accessible. The patch notes also highlight improvements in the game's netcode and client performance.
Vital Update for Deadlock
This update could be the key to revitalizing Deadlock's community and reigniting player interest. In September 2024, the game reached its all-time peak with 171,490 active players. However, by the following month, the player count had dropped by 90%, with only around 17,000 players remaining.
Valve Developer Yoshi addressed the community on Deadlock's Discord server in January 2025, explaining the shift in their update schedule. He stated, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."
