Cookie Run: Kingdom Delays Version 5.6 Update, Here's The Good, The Bad And The Ugly!

Cookie Run: Kingdom's Version 5.6 Update: A Double-Edged Sword

Devsisters' latest update for Cookie Run: Kingdom, "Dark Resolution's Glorious Return" (Version 5.6), promised a wealth of new content, including cookies, episodes, events, toppings, and treasures. However, the update's reception has been decidedly mixed.

The Good:

  • Dragon Lord Dark Cacao Cookie: This Ancient+ Cookie, a Charge-type frontline fighter, boasts an Awakened King skill inflicting significant damage and applying a CRIT Resist debuff. He also synergizes with the Twin Dragons. A dedicated Nether-Gacha increases the odds of acquiring him.

  • Peach Blossom Cookie: A new Epic Support Cookie, Peach Blossom Cookie provides healing and buffs DMG Resist and Debuff Resist to allies.

  • New World Exploration Episode: Dark Cacao Cookie's story continues in "Dark Resolution's Glorious Return," featuring Yin and Yang-themed battle stages.

The Bad and the Ugly:

The introduction of the Ancient+ rarity, a new tier above the existing ten rarities, with a maximum 6-star promotion level, sparked significant backlash. Players criticized the decision to introduce a higher rarity tier instead of enhancing existing cookies, viewing it as a predatory monetization tactic.

The negative response, particularly from the Korean community and whale guilds, escalated to threats of a boycott. In response to this outcry, Devsisters announced a postponement of the June 20th release date to reassess the changes. An official tweet confirmed the delay.

The community's reaction highlights a growing concern regarding the potential for gacha games to prioritize profit maximization over player satisfaction. The developers' decision to postpone the update suggests a willingness to address player concerns, but the long-term impact on the game's future remains to be seen. The situation underscores the importance of developer-community communication and the potential consequences of ignoring player feedback.
