ASTRA: Knights of Veda Bids Farewell to English Dubbing
Following a trend among gacha games, ASTRA: Knights of Veda will be removing its English voiceovers after maintenance on January 23, 2025. This decision, announced by developer FLINT on January 20th, aims to enhance game stability and improve the quality of other language localizations.
The upcoming maintenance will also remove support for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. However, Korean, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian will remain. While English text will still be available, in-game voice acting will default to Japanese for players outside of Korea. This change, according to FLINT, won't affect players' ability to chat in any of the removed languages.
FLINT assures players that this adjustment is part of their commitment to providing a superior gaming experience.
A Growing Trend: Other Gacha Games Following Suit
ASTRA: Knights of Veda isn't alone in this decision. Several other gacha titles have made similar moves, including:
- War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius: Square Enix removed English voiceovers for new content starting in May 2024, prioritizing Japanese for future updates.
- Aether Gazer: Yostar Games completely removed English dubbing in February 2024 due to financial constraints, focusing resources on gameplay and future content.
- Snowbreak: Containment Zone: Amazing Seasun Games removed English voiceovers in December 2023, citing an evaluation of player preferences and optimization of the gaming experience.
The rationale behind these decisions often centers on resource allocation and player preference. Prioritizing the most popular language is cost-effective, especially considering the long-term commitment of maintaining voice acting for multiple languages in a constantly updated game. By reallocating resources, developers can focus on improving other aspects of the game, ensuring its long-term health and player satisfaction.
