Koei Tecmo's Q1 2024 financial report shed light on the future projects from their in-house developers and brands. Omega Force is at the helm of "Dynasty Warriors Origins," a fresh tactical action game within the Dynasty Warriors musou series. Scheduled for a 2025 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam), this marks the first full Dynasty Warriors title since 2018's Dynasty Warriors 9, which saw an expansion in 2022. The game's storyline revolves around a "Nameless Hero" set during the Three Kingdoms period in China, spanning from 220 to 280 AD, post-Han dynasty.

The report, dated July 29, also announced two other games for global release: "Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake," and "FAIRY TAIL 2." Additionally, Koei Tecmo is developing several unannounced titles, including a highly anticipated AAA game.

"Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake" is slated for an October 2024 release, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the original, and will be available on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC. "FAIRY TAIL 2," a sequel to the 2020 RPG inspired by the manga series, is set to hit the shelves this winter on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.

In related news, Koei Tecmo's profits in the console video games sector for Q1 2024 were driven by continued sales of "Rise of the Ronin." The company is optimistic about this open-world action RPG, setting high sales targets and viewing it as a pivotal move towards establishing itself as a major triple-A developer.

Koei Tecmo Aims for Continuous AAA Title Releases

Rise of the Ronin Devs' Unannounced AAA Title in the Works

Earlier in the year, Koei Tecmo outlined its ambition to become a prominent player in the triple-A gaming scene, announcing the launch of a new triple-A studio that has already started working on its first project. The recent financial report confirmed that Koei Tecmo is developing several unannounced titles, including at least one AAA game, though details remain scarce.

AAA games, or triple-A games, are high-budget productions typically developed and published by major studios, a category Koei Tecmo is eager to join. These games are characterized by extensive development, significant marketing efforts, wide distribution, and large development teams.

"To expand the Company’s lineup of titles, AAA Studio was established. In order to achieve medium- to long-term growth, we will continue to build a system that enables us to release large-scale titles on a continuous basis," Koei Tecmo stated in their recent report.
