Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Computer Mice, Suggests Leaked Data
New circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons could offer an unexpected functionality: computer mouse emulation. While the practicality of this feature for game developers remains uncertain, it aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative controller designs.
The intriguing clue comes from Famiboards user LiC, who previously accessed Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This source has been a rich vein of Switch 2 rumors since mid-2024.
LiC's latest discovery involves shipping manifests mentioning polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "mouse soles"—the typical bottom component of a computer mouse—intended for "game console handles." The listed model numbers, LG7 and SML7, are not found in public databases, hinting at unreleased components. The 90 x 90mm tape size suggests it could cover the entire back of the Joy-Cons, likely requiring trimming during assembly.
This isn't Nintendo's first foray into unconventional controller modes.
Not a Novel Concept: Lenovo Legion GO Precedent
The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, already features a mouse mode for its right controller. Rotating the controller sideways transforms it into a joystick-like form, optimized for mouse functionality with an included plastic slider. The Legion GO also utilizes magnetic rails for controller attachment—a feature rumored for the Switch 2. These similarities offer a potential preview of Nintendo's latest hybrid console.
