Hashino recently revealed his vision for the studio's future, expressing a strong interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as the perfect backdrop for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the popular Basara series.
While there are currently no concrete plans for a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel, Hashino emphasized his commitment to completing the current project. He shared that the game was initially conceived as the third major JRPG series for Atlus, following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, and aims to become a flagship title for the company.
Despite earlier statements ruling out a direct sequel, the team is already working on their next project, which is unlikely to be a Metaphor: ReFantazio follow-up. However, an anime adaptation is being considered. Metaphor: ReFantazio has achieved remarkable success, boasting the highest concurrent player count of any Atlus game launch to date, exceeding 85,961 players. This surpasses the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
