Mario vs. Sonic: Unofficial cinematic crossover trailer unveiled

A dream clash of gaming titans: Mario and Sonic! For years, fans have clamored for a cinematic showdown between these iconic characters, fueling speculation about a potential Sega and Nintendo collaboration.

KH Studio has answered the call with a captivating concept trailer. This vibrant preview seamlessly blends the familiar Mushroom Kingdom aesthetic with Sonic's signature high-speed action, offering a tantalizing glimpse of what a combined franchise film could achieve.

The runaway success of the Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog movies, collectively earning over $2 billion globally, undoubtedly inspired this creative endeavor.

Despite the historical rivalry between Nintendo and Sega, making an actual crossover unlikely, the prospect of uniting these beloved heroes clearly resonates deeply with audiences.

In the meantime, fans can anticipate sequels: Super Mario Bros. at the Movies 2 slated for 2026, and Sonic 4 at the Movies in 2027.

Separately, December saw the unveiling of a partnership between McDonald's, Sega, and Paramount. Following the successful 2022 McDonald's toy promotion, speculation mounted regarding a collaboration for the third Sonic film. This culminated in McDonald's unveiling a new Sonic-themed Happy Meal in Colombia, featuring twelve unique hedgehog toys. While initially Colombia-exclusive, McDonald's later confirmed a US release, offering each Happy Meal with a special Sonic the Hedgehog 3 toy, alongside a side, drink, and choice of McNuggets or burgers.
