LEGO Enters the Gaming World with In-House Projects

LEGO CEO Niels Christiansen has unveiled ambitious plans to significantly expand the company's digital footprint, specifically by venturing into video game development. This expansion will involve both independently created titles and strategic partnerships.

“We are confident that, as long as we operate under the LEGO brand, we aim to create experiences for children of all ages across both digital and physical platforms. Developing games internally is something we are actively pursuing.” Niels Christiansen

This strategic shift doesn't signal an end to LEGO's licensing agreements with third-party developers. Recent reports, for example, indicate that TT Games, renowned for its LEGO-themed games, is currently developing a new title, likely based on a Warner Bros. franchise.

LEGO's most prominent foray into gaming to date is its successful collaboration with Epic Games. Last year's introduction of a LEGO-themed mode in Fortnite proved immensely popular, solidifying the brand's appeal within the gaming community.

The company also boasts a long-standing relationship with TT Games, resulting in a hugely successful series of adventure games spanning two decades. While new projects from TT Games have been relatively quiet recently, speculation points towards a new LEGO Harry Potter game, potentially inspired by the commercial triumph of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Further demonstrating LEGO's adaptability within the gaming industry, a partnership with 2K Games led to the release of LEGO 2K Drive, a racing game launched last year, which broadened the brand's reach into new gaming genres.
