A former Toys For Bob concept artist, Nicholas Kole, hinted on X (formerly Twitter) that a Crash Bandicoot 5 was in development but ultimately canceled. This revelation followed a discussion about Kole's other scrapped project, "Project Dragon," which sparked fan speculation. Kole clarified that "Project Dragon" was a new IP with Phoenix Labs, but his comment about a never-released Crash Bandicoot 5 caused significant fan disappointment.

Kole's July 12th X post ignited a flurry of responses from fans heartbroken at the news of a potential Crash Bandicoot 5 cancellation. The sentiment was widespread, with many expressing their disappointment.

The cancellation news comes after Toys For Bob's transition to an independent studio following its separation from Activision Blizzard earlier this year. While Activision Blizzard was acquired by Microsoft, Toys For Bob is now partnering with Microsoft Xbox for its first independent game, though details remain scarce.

The last major Crash Bandicoot installment, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, launched in 2020 and achieved over five million sales. Subsequent releases included Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter of which concluded its live service in March 2024.
