If you're diving into *Monster Hunter Wilds* and facing off against the Chatacabra, one of the first monsters you'll encounter, mastering the art of defeating or capturing it is essential. This long-tongued menace, resembling a giant frog, is a great early-game challenge that you'll want to conquer to improve your skills.
How to Beat Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds
The Chatacabra is weak to Ice and Thunder but has no specific resistances, making it a prime target for those elements. It's immune to Sonic Bombs, so keep that in mind. This beast primarily uses close-range attacks with its tongue but can also charge at you if you're too distant. Given its smaller size, weapons like the Bow and Charge Blade may be less effective due to their multi-hit nature being better suited for larger targets. However, any weapon can be used effectively against it.
Most of Chatacabra's attacks are tongue-based, making the area directly in front of it the most dangerous spot. It also uses its front limbs for ground slams, always preceded by a rearing motion. The only notable attack from behind is a sweeping tongue attack, signaled by the monster raising its head to the sky.
To beat Chatacabra efficiently, position yourself near its sides, ready to dodge or block its rearing slam attacks. Utilizing its elemental weaknesses will bring it down quickly, and soon, you'll be sporting a new frog skin hat.
How to Capture Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds
Capturing the Chatacabra follows the standard procedure in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Since it can't fly, the process is straightforward. Equip yourself with a Shock Trap or a Pitfall Trap, and bring along two Tranq Bombs. It's wise to carry one of each trap and up to eight Tranq Bombs to be prepared for any mishaps.
Engage the Chatacabra in combat until its icon on the mini-map shows a skull, indicating it's near defeat and attempting to limp away to a new area. Follow it to its chosen spot, then set up your trap and lure it in. Once the Chatacabra is trapped, use two Tranq Bombs to put it to sleep, completing the capture successfully.
