How To Access the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

Author : Daniel Mar 16,2025

Since Fields of Mistria entered Steam Early Access, the Deep Woods has been tantalizingly marked on the town map, yet remained inaccessible—until the March 2025 update, that is! This guide reveals how to unlock this mysterious area and finally meet Caldarus.

The key to unlocking the Deep Woods lies in breaking the Fire Seal and utilizing the newly acquired Dragon’s Breath spell to melt away the obstructing vines. This requires a specific offering to the Priestess's altar on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three are found between floors 50 and 59. However, obtaining the Sealing Scroll requires a bit more legwork.

To get the scroll, you need to leave these items in the bin near Balor's wagon: 10 Silver Ingots, 10 Rubies, 10 Sapphires, and 10 Emeralds. After making the offering, speak to Balor again; he'll inform you the scroll will arrive the next day. Once you have all four items, complete the offering.

While breaking magic seals usually results in a simple farewell from the Priestess, this time, things take an unexpected turn. She urges you to flee before the scroll seals you within the mines. As your health plummets, Caldarus appears, revealing his human form before retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength. He then tasks you with finding him there, granting you the Dragon’s Breath spell in the process.

This powerful spell not only burns through the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance but also opens up other previously inaccessible areas. Equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu, stand before the entrance, and activate the spell to permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other hidden locations.

Finding Caldarus

After unlocking the Deep Woods, Caldarus awaits within his temple, located north of the Eastern Road. You'll need Dragon’s Breath to access the area. His location is clearly marked on your map, just like other NPCs, in the northeast corner of the Deep Woods.

Upon entering, you'll encounter a stump; use your axe to clear the path. Proceed north to reach the temple where Caldarus resides. Once the Deep Woods are unlocked, use the Dragon Statue on your farm for convenient and cost-effective (10 Essence) fast travel to visit Caldarus whenever you please.

While you can now visit Caldarus directly, you can still interact with him through his statue—in spirit, at least.

NOTE: Fields of Mistria is currently in Early Access, and content is subject to change. The above information is accurate as of Version 0.13.0 and will be updated as needed.
