Seca: A Card Game Overview

Seca, also known as Sikka, Sichka, Strelkoza, Trinka, Trynka, Drynka, Tri Lista, Dva Lista, and others, is a card game played with 2 to 10 players. The deck size varies depending on the number of players:

  • 2-4 players: 20 cards (Tens through Aces).
  • 5-10 players: 36 cards (Sixes through Aces).

A Joker is included, typically designated as a Six of any suit by agreement among players.

Card Values:

  • Joker and Ace: 11 points
  • King through Ten: 10 points
  • Lower cards: Face value

The player with the highest point total at the end wins the pot.

Gameplay:

  1. Dealing: A dealer is chosen randomly. Players contribute an agreed-upon amount to the pot. Each player receives three cards. Players then decide whether to fold or continue.

  2. Scoring: Points are awarded for cards of the same suit ("flush"). For example, a Seven and a Jack of Clubs would yield 17 points. Otherwise, only the highest card's value counts. Three cards of the same rank ("three of a kind," or "trynka") always beat any flush (but not a higher three of a kind).

  3. Bidding: The player to the dealer's right makes the initial bet. Subsequent players can fold, call, or raise.

  4. Showdown: After the betting round, the first player decides to continue bidding or show their cards. The player with the highest point total wins the pot.

  5. Ties: If multiple players have the same score, they can either split the pot or start a new round called a "svara." In a "svara," the pot is increased by the original stake plus 1/N (where N is the previous pot size). Other players can also contribute and join.

  6. Bluffing: Bluffing is allowed. Players can raise even with a low score.

  7. "Dark" Bet: The player after the dealer can place an additional blind bet ("dark") of any size without looking at their cards. Subsequent players must bet double the "dark" bet to continue.
