The Witcher Saga Continues: Ciri Takes Center Stage in Witcher 4
Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3 captivated gamers, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, shifting the focus to Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter. With Geralt's trilogy concluded, the spotlight falls on the younger generation. The teaser showcases Ciri intervening in a village gripped by superstition, where a young woman is slated for sacrifice to appease a monster. Ciri's intervention reveals a far more complex situation than initially perceived.
A release date remains elusive. Considering the development timelines of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, and the early stage of Witcher 4's production, a 3-4 year wait is a reasonable expectation.
Platform specifics are yet to be announced. Given the projected timeframe, a current-generation console-only release seems likely, though not confirmed. We anticipate simultaneous launches on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. While a Switch port was achieved for Witcher 3, it seems less probable this time, though a potential Switch 2 release remains a possibility.
While gameplay details are scarce, the CGI trailer hints at familiar elements: potions, combat phrases, and magical Signs. A notable potential addition is Ciri's chain, used for both monster capture and magic channeling.
Voice actor Doug Cockle confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, albeit in a supporting role, fueling speculation of a mentor-like function for the veteran Witcher. The trailer includes dialogue from Geralt, further supporting this theory.
