SoMoGa Inc. has unveiled a modernized version of Vay, now available on Android, iOS, and Steam. This classic 16-bit RPG has received a significant overhaul, boasting enhanced visuals, a streamlined user interface, and controller compatibility.
Originally released in Japan in 1993 for the Sega CD (developed by Hertz and localized for the US by Working Designs), Vay was re-released by SoMoGa on iOS in 2008. This latest iteration builds upon that legacy.
What's New in the Revamped Vay?
The updated Vay features over 100 enemies, a dozen challenging bosses, and exploration across 90 diverse areas. A notable addition is the customizable difficulty setting, allowing players to tailor the experience to their preference. An auto-save function simplifies gameplay, and Bluetooth controller support offers flexible control options. Players can acquire new equipment and spells as their characters level up, while an AI system enables autonomous character combat.
The Story
Set in a distant galaxy scarred by a millennia-long interstellar war, Vay unfolds on a technologically underdeveloped planet after a catastrophic machine crash-lands. This self-destructing machine wreaks havoc, leaving devastation in its wake.
Players embark on a quest to rescue their abducted wife, a mission that could ultimately determine the fate of the world. The story begins on their wedding day, when their bride is kidnapped, triggering an epic adventure to confront the destructive war machines.
Vay's narrative expertly blends nostalgia with modern elements, retaining the core JRPG experience of leveling up and earning gold through random encounters. The game includes approximately ten minutes of animated cutscenes, available in both English and Japanese audio.
Download the revamped Vay from the Google Play Store for $5.99. This premium title offers a compelling blend of classic RPG gameplay and modern enhancements.
