Street Fighter 6's New Battle Pass Faces Backlash Over Lack of Character Costumes

Street Fighter 6's latest battle pass, "Boot Camp Bonanza," has sparked significant player discontent. The issue isn't the pass's contents—avatars, stickers, and other customization options—but rather its glaring omission: new character costumes. This absence has ignited a firestorm of criticism across YouTube and other social media platforms.

The game, launched in Summer 2023, successfully updated the franchise's combat mechanics while introducing new elements. However, its DLC and premium add-on strategy has consistently drawn criticism. The new battle pass continues this trend, with players expressing frustration over the lack of new costumes rather than the included items. As one user, salty107, put it, "Who is buying this avatar stuff so much that they're throwing money away like this? Making actual character skins would be more profitable, right?" Many fans feel the pass is a disappointment, with some even preferring no battle pass at all.

Player Frustration Mounts

The absence of new costumes is particularly galling given the last release was the Outfit 3 pack in December 2023. Over a year later, players remain without new outfits, a stark contrast to Street Fighter 5's more frequent costume releases. While Street Fighter 5 had its own controversies, Capcom's approach to Street Fighter 6's post-launch content is clearly a point of contention.

The future of this battle pass remains uncertain. However, the core gameplay, notably the innovative Drive mechanic, continues to attract players. This mechanic allows for swift fight reversals when used effectively, and alongside new characters, contributed to Street Fighter 6's initially positive reception. Yet, the game's live-service model, exemplified by this controversial battle pass, continues to alienate a significant portion of its fanbase as we head into 2025.
