Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most thrilling pirate multiplayer experience yet, with a slew of major content updates including new modes, ships, a Kraken, and a long-awaited feature: land combat.
During a special Year 2 showcase premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its treasure trove of plans for the upcoming year. The presentation was brimming with exciting content, but it's Season 3: Guts and Glory that steals the spotlight with the introduction of land combat, a feature fans have been clamoring for since the game's launch last February.
Set to arrive this fall in Season 3, land combat will allow players to take the fight to the shores, engaging in swordfights and firearm duels. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crewmembers known as Officers. A teaser video gave a glimpse of what to expect, but we'll need to wait until later this year to see it in action.
While land combat is the crown jewel of Skull and Bones Year 2, the presentation promised a wealth of content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, launching today, April 15, introduces an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, slated for summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and the massive Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, arriving this winter, will bring the Kraken, Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship into the fray.
If the updates sound enticing, you'll be thrilled to know that Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 to 21. During this period, players can dive into the pirate PvP action and also purchase the game at a discounted price (details to be announced).
Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, receiving a 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about official sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after release. Notably, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
