Palworld, showcased at PlayStation's September 2024 State of Play event, finally arrives on PlayStation consoles after its Xbox and PC debuts. However, a significant exception exists: the PS5 release is delayed indefinitely in Japan due to legal issues with Nintendo.
Palworld's Japanese PS5 Launch Delayed Indefinitely
Palworld's PlayStation Debut
As announced during the PlayStation State of Play, Palworld launched globally on PS5. Sony even highlighted the game, showcasing a character sporting Horizon Forbidden West-inspired gear.Despite the global launch, Japanese PlayStation gamers are currently unable to access Palworld. This is attributed to ongoing legal action by Nintendo and Pokémon against developer Pocketpair.
Japan Release Date Uncertain
Palworld's Japanese Twitter (X) account addressed the situation, confirming the worldwide PS5 release (excluding Japan) and apologizing for the delay. They stated that a Japanese release date remains undetermined, promising to update players as soon as possible.
The reason for the delay is strongly implied to be the patent infringement lawsuit filed by Nintendo in Tokyo court. This lawsuit seeks an injunction and damages, potentially halting Palworld's operations entirely if successful. The injunction could lead to the game's removal from all platforms.
