Overwatch 2 makes a triumphant return to China, bringing with it a wave of events allowing players to claim rewards missed from Seasons 1 through 9, mythology-themed skins, and more. Chinese players can rejoin the action on Future Earth starting February 19th, coinciding with the launch of Season 15.
Following a successful technical test (January 8-15), which offered a sneak peek at content including Overwatch: Classic and six post-shutdown heroes, Overwatch 2 has unveiled its plans for a multi-week "Return to China" celebration. Game director Aaron Keller announced on Xiaohongshu (RedNote) that this celebration will feature popular in-game events and rewards. All Chinese players will earn Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 and 2 before relaunch, and Seasons 3-9 rewards through in-game events post-relaunch.
Chinese Mythology: A Season 15 Theme?
Keller also revealed that Season 15 will include skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology. Whether these skins are new or existing, China-exclusive, or part of a broader Season 15 theme remains to be seen. This is reminiscent of Season 14's Norse mythology-themed cosmetics.
The wait for answers won't be long. Season 15 begins February 18th, just before the China relaunch. Expect more details, including a full reveal, likely in early February.
In the meantime, players globally can participate in "Min 1, Max 3," a 6v6 test (January 21-February 4) featuring the classic 2-2-2 team composition. Lunar New Year and Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic events are also planned before Season 15. While Chinese players miss these events, their own special celebrations await.
