Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision

Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal

Following significant player feedback, Marvel Rivals has rescinded its plan for a mid-season rank reset. The developer announced the reversal in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the backlash generated by the initial announcement in Dev Talk 10.

The original plan, detailed in Dev Talk 10, involved a four-division rank drop for all players every 45 days. This was met with considerable criticism from the community, who argued it was demotivating for those striving for higher ranks.

Dev Talk 11 clarified that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their existing rank and score from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season rank reset remains, with a six-division drop at the season's conclusion.

New Heroes and Other Updates Remain on Track

Despite the change to the rank reset policy, other planned updates are proceeding as scheduled. The highly anticipated release of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, is still on track. NetEase Games’ commitment to adding two new playable characters per three-month season remains unchanged.

Reward structures for high-ranking players (Gold and above) also stay the same. Players achieving Gold rank or higher will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, with Grandmaster and above receiving Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor (for Grandmaster and above), will be awarded at the end of the season. Balance adjustments are also planned, though specifics are yet to be released.
