If you had any doubt that *Rune Slayer* isn’t an MMORPG, here’s your proof: it has fishing. And as we all know, if a game has fishing, it’s officially an MMORPG. Kidding aside, you’re here to learn how fishing works in *Rune Slayer*, and we’re here to guide you through it. We had our share of struggles figuring this out, but now we're ready to share the secrets of catching fish in *Rune Slayer*. Spoiler Alert: It's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*.
Before You Catch Fish in Rune Slayer
Before you start reeling in the big ones, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. He's the white-haired NPC you'll find at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon wants you to catch 5 “fish,” and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll get to why the quotation marks matter soon).
Here's the catch: **to start fishing, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman has just what you need.
**Buy a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. While most players suggest having at least 5 worms, we recommend grabbing 10 to be on the safe side. **No, you cannot equip the bait**. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory, and although you don't equip them, they're used automatically when you fish. **Each time you catch something, one Worm is removed from your inventory**.
Here's a crucial detail: **you won't be able to catch any fish unless you have at least 5 bait items**. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. It was only after we had 5 Worms in our inventory that we started catching fish. We suggest placing the Worms in your hotbar to keep an eye on your supply. Once you're equipped with these essentials, you're ready to move on to the next step.
How to Catch Fish in Rune Slayer
First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can't equip it in the traditional sense, so just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will hold it ready.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water** (the pier next to Simon the Fisherman is a good spot).
Now, keep an eye on the bobber. When you see it **make one or two ripples**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It's that simple.
**This method doesn't guarantee a catch every time**. Often, you'll come up empty-handed. Other times, you might reel in junk, but the good news is **Simon counts junk as a catch** (hence the quotation marks around "fish" earlier).
So, cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and aim to catch anything five times. We managed to catch only two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.
**Once you've caught 5 "fish", return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to free up your inventory space from fishing tackle.
**That's all there is to it. Enjoy your fishing adventures in *Rune Slayer*. If you need more guidance, don't forget to check out our The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to *Rune Slayer*.**
