Despite a Season 1 crackdown, Marvel Rivals players continue to risk account bans by using mods. Since the game's December launch, custom skins created via mods have been popular, transforming characters like Iron Man into Vegeta and Mantis into a goth. One mod even turns Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita.
NetEase, the developer, implemented asset hash checking to restrict mods, reiterating that their terms of service prohibit mods, cheats, and other unauthorized third-party software. While warnings were previously issued, a workaround is now circulating, requiring more steps but remaining accessible to many PC players.
Modder Prafit, who shared a workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users about the risk of bans, stating that while NetEase hasn't issued permanent bans yet, the possibility remains. This workaround has fueled the creation of new mods, such as one transforming Mister Fantastic into Luffy, which has already seen over 5,000 downloads.

The lack of reported bans for mod usage doesn't guarantee future safety. NetEase's motivation for banning mods likely stems from potential revenue loss from official skin sales, intellectual property concerns, gameplay imbalance, and potential performance issues. Prafit even noted that their workaround is best suited for high-spec PCs.
