Nexus Mods, a popular platform for game modifications, finds itself at the center of a heated debate after removing over 500 mods in a single month. The controversy ignited when mods for Marvel's Rivals, replacing Captain America's head with images of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, were taken down.
TheDarkOne, Nexus Mods' owner, clarified the situation on Reddit, stating that both the Biden and Trump mods were removed simultaneously to prevent accusations of political bias. He highlighted the irony of YouTube commentators seemingly ignoring this aspect of the removal.
However, this action didn't quell the outrage. TheDarkOne reported receiving numerous threats and hateful messages following the removal, including death threats and accusations of pedophilia.
This isn't an isolated incident. In 2022, Nexus Mods faced similar backlash after removing a Spider-Man Remastered mod that replaced rainbow flags with American flags. The platform's stance on inclusivity and its rejection of content opposing diversity were clearly articulated at that time.
TheDarkOne concluded by expressing a lack of interest in engaging with those who find the platform's moderation policies objectionable.
