NetEase Games Issues Warning: Marvel Rivals Modders Face Bans
NetEase Games, developer and publisher of the popular team shooter Marvel Rivals, has issued a stern warning to players using modifications (mods). The company explicitly stated that any modding activity, from cosmetic changes to performance-enhancing add-ons, violates the game's terms of service and risks permanent account bans.
This warning follows the release of Marvel Rivals Season 1, which introduced new heroes (Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic from the Fantastic Four) and attempted to counter modding through a hidden asset hash check. However, workarounds quickly emerged, allowing players to circumvent these measures. One such mod, available on Nexus Mods, bypasses the hash check, and its creator, Prafit, explicitly warns users of the potential for account bans. Another mod, created by Ercuallo and shared on social media, even allows players to transform Mister Fantastic into Luffy from One Piece.
While NetEase Games hasn't publicly confirmed any bans for modding yet, the company's stance is firm: modding is against the rules. Although some mods, including one featuring Donald Trump, have been removed from Nexus Mods, Prafit's workaround remains available, boasting over 500 downloads.
Marvel Rivals has faced challenges with false bans since its launch, but the message is clear: modding carries significant risk. The future actions of NetEase Games in response to ongoing modding remain to be seen. The game, nominated for Online Game of the Year at the DICE Awards 2025, continues to enjoy popularity despite this ongoing issue.
