Splitgate 2: The Highly Anticipated Sequel Arrives in 2025
1047 Games, the creators of the popular "Halo meets Portal" shooter Splitgate, has announced a sequel launching in 2025. This new iteration promises a fresh take on the fast-paced arena shooter experience while retaining the core elements that made the original a hit.
A Familiar Foundation, a Brand New Experience
Revealed via a cinematic trailer on July 18th, Splitgate 2 aims for longevity, designed to be enjoyed for a decade or more. While drawing inspiration from classic arena shooters, the developers have focused on building a deep and rewarding gameplay loop using Unreal Engine 5. The portal mechanics, a key feature of the original, have been re-engineered to offer both casual and expert players a satisfying experience.
The game will remain free-to-play and introduce a new faction system, adding strategic depth. Expect a completely refreshed visual and gameplay experience compared to the original, available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
Building on Success: New Factions, Maps, and More
The announcement trailer showcased the Sol Splitgate League and three distinct factions: Aeros (dash-focused), Meridian (tactical, time-manipulation), and Sabrask (brute force). While not a hero shooter, these factions promise diverse playstyles.
Further gameplay details will be revealed at Gamescom 2024 (August 21-25). The trailer itself, however, offers a glimpse into new maps, weapons, and the return of dual-wielding.
Beyond the Arena: A Deeper Dive into the Lore
Splitgate 2 will not feature a single-player campaign. However, a mobile companion app will allow players to explore the game's lore through comics, collect character cards, and even take a quiz to determine their ideal faction.
