Guardians Star Pom Klementieff Eyed for DCU Role

James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, is known for frequently casting friends in his projects. Now, an actress from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has confirmed ongoing discussions about joining the DC Universe.

The DC Universe (DCU) aims to build a successful shared cinematic universe, unlike its predecessor, the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which faced challenges due to studio interference and inconsistent vision. While the DCEU had some box office successes, it lacked overall cohesion. Warner Bros. hopes Gunn, known for his work on the Guardians of the Galaxy films, can steer the DCU to greater success, potentially bringing familiar faces along.

According to Agents of Fandom, Pom Klementieff, who played Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy, revealed at San Antonio's Superhero Comic Con that she's discussed a specific DCU role with Gunn. While she wouldn't disclose details, she confirmed Gunn has a particular character in mind for her.

I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that. \[...\] Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now.
Klementieff also shared her positive experience working with Gunn on *Guardians of the Galaxy*, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity. Following the conclusion of *Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3*, which saw the original team disband, Klementieff remains open to reprising her role as Mantis in the future.
I'm always open to it, I love the character. I'm sure the fans would love to see it, but I don't know. It depends on the project.
Gunn himself corroborated Klementieff's statements on Threads, clarifying that the role discussed is separate from his upcoming Superman film. He confirmed conversations about a specific DC character, emphasizing that it's unrelated to the Superman project.

Gunn's tendency to cast familiar faces, including family members, has drawn criticism from some. However, others argue that this is a common practice among filmmakers. Ultimately, Klementieff's suitability for the undisclosed role should be judged based on her performance rather than pre-conceived notions.

Guardians of the Galaxy is streaming on Disney+.
