Fallout 76 Season 20, titled "The Ghoul Within," introduces an exciting new feature that allows players to transform into Ghouls in the radiation-filled world of Appalachia. This update, detailed by Bethesda on March 18, brings a variety of ghoul-related mechanics, features, and new cosmetic options to enhance your C.A.M.P. and gameplay experience.
Unleash the Ghoul Within
In this thrilling update, players can embrace their inner Ghoul through a process called Ghoulification. By completing the "Leap of Faith" questline, players venture into a new area of the Savage Divide, meeting unique characters that aid in their transformation. As a Ghoul, players gain access to exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-specific Perks, or "Gherks."
The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst stats with a Feral meter that boosts different attributes based on its level. However, if the meter drops to 0%, gameplay becomes dramatically different with increased melee damage but severe penalties to Endurance, Charisma, Max HP, Max AP, and both Hip-fire and V.A.T.S. Accuracy. On the other hand, the Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and increasing maximum health and healing capabilities.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the wasteland as a Ghoul is made easier with the new Gherks and abilities. However, certain factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile, potentially blocking some questlines. Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye offers disguises that allow Ghouls to access content that would otherwise be unavailable. If the Ghoul life isn't for you, you can revert to being human via the Character Screen, though this is irreversible without purchasing the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
The Season 20 update also introduces a Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This boost is perfect for both newcomers and seasoned players, allowing immediate access to multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and certain story content. The update includes various bug fixes, balance tweaks, accessibility improvements, combat adjustments, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda has also announced the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, set for April 29, as part of their seasonal calendar.
Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has evolved significantly. Despite its challenging start, the game now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% positive reviews. Fallout 76 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, offering players a continuously improving post-apocalyptic experience.
