Final Fantasy XIV Suspends Housing Demolitions Due to LA Wildfires
Square Enix has temporarily halted automatic housing demolitions in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers. The company will announce a resumption date once the situation is assessed.
The automatic demolition system, designed to free up housing plots after 45 days of inactivity, was only recently reinstated after a previous suspension. This latest pause underscores Square Enix's commitment to accommodating players impacted by real-world events. While the system typically encourages player activity to maintain ownership, the company recognizes that circumstances like natural disasters can prevent logins.
This action follows a previous pause related to Hurricane Helene's aftermath. The current suspension began on Thursday, January 9th, at 11:20 PM Eastern. Homeowners can still reset their timers by visiting their properties.
Impact Beyond the Game:
The LA wildfires have impacted more than just Final Fantasy XIV. The Critical Role web series delayed its Campaign 3 finale, and an NFL playoff game was moved to Arizona.
The year 2025 has begun with a flurry of activity for Final Fantasy XIV players, including the return of a free login campaign and this unexpected housing demolition suspension. The duration of the current pause remains uncertain.
