Square Enix and Tencent Teaming Up for Potential FFXIV Mobile Game
A recent report from Niko Partners, a video game market research firm, suggests a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV is in the works, a joint venture between Square Enix and Tencent. This follows earlier, unconfirmed reports of such a collaboration.
The report details a list of games approved for release in China by the National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA). Among these approved titles is a mobile FFXIV game, reportedly developed by Tencent. Other notable titles on the list include mobile and PC versions of Rainbow Six, and mobile games based on Marvel Snap, Marvel Rivals, and Dynasty Warriors 8.
While Niko Partners' analyst, Daniel Ahmad, tweeted about the FFXIV mobile game being a standalone MMORPG separate from the PC version, he emphasized that this information is based on industry speculation and lacks official confirmation from either Square Enix or Tencent.
This potential partnership aligns with Square Enix's recently announced multiplatform strategy, aiming for broader reach across various gaming platforms for its key franchises, including Final Fantasy. Given Tencent's significant presence in the mobile gaming market, this collaboration could be a crucial step in Square Enix's expansion plans. However, until official confirmation arrives, the existence of this FFXIV mobile game remains unverified.
