With early access just days away, the preliminary version 7.0 patch notes for Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail have been released, giving players an idea of just how extensive the major updates will be. The notes detail where Final Fantasy 14 players can pick up the quests for the new Viper and the Pictomancer classes, as well as tons of changes coming to different systems within the MMO.
Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail is the fifth expansion of Square Enix's critically acclaimed MMORPG. Not only is it the start of a new saga following Endwalker, but Dawntrail will feature the game's first major graphical update since its relaunch as A Realm Reborn. Dawntrail will see the Warrior of Light and their allies travel to the western continent of Tural, which is hosting a rite of succession to determine its next ruler. The Warrior of Light joins forces with the youthful Hrothgar Wuk Lamat, one of the four candidates to become Tural's Dawnservant. Ahead of the expansion, Square Enix has asked players to be considerate of story spoilers on social media.
While Square Enix remains tight-lipped regarding the Dawntrail main story quests, plenty of new content was teased. According to the Final Fantasy 14 preliminary patch notes, the Arcadion raid series and the Cenote Ja Ja Gural treasure dungeon will be added in future updates. A new level one quest for a free Fantasia potion will be added in 7.0, which players can trigger by speaking to the Medicine Merchant in Ul'dah - Steps of Thal (X:13.4, Y:9.2). The locations of the Dawntrail role quests were also included, all of which require progress to an unknown point in Dawntrail's main story quests to access. The preliminary update notes also confirmed where players can start the Viper and Pictomancer Job quests - from a Worried Weaver in Ul'dah - Steps of Nald (X:9.3, Y:9.2) and a Cheerless Hearer in Old Gridania (X:8.0, Y:10.3), respectively.
Final Fantasy 14 Reveals Preliminary Patch 7.0 Notes
The Arcadion raid and the Cenote Ja Ja Gural treasure dungeon will be added in later updates. A new level 1 quest for a free Fantasia potion can be started in Ul'dah. The locations of the Viper and Pictomancer Job quests were revealed, along with various Dawntrail role quests. Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail will add new items for players to collect and new graphical options.
The patch notes also explain the measures Final Fantasy 14 is taking to address server congestion ahead of Dawntrail's early access launch, which includes restrictions on data center travel for two to four weeks. The notes also show a few new items that players can craft, including a new housing exterior and furnishings. Some changes coming with Patch 7.0 as part of Final Fantasy 14's graphical update include support for AMD's FSR and Nvidia's DLSS upscaling technologies and the ability to cap the frame rate in-game.
With Dawntrail available to download in the coming days, Final Fantasy 14 players will soon have countless hours of content to sink time into. Only time will tell how long it will take more eager players to blaze through the expansion's main story.
