Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Reportedly Exits BioWare

Author : Anthony Feb 28,2025

Corinne Busche, director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA subsidiary. Eurogamer reports her departure, expected in the coming weeks, follows her tenure as game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last October. EA has yet to comment.

Questions surrounding The Veilguard's commercial success have persisted since its release. While Eurogamer states Busche's exit is unrelated to the game's performance, EA's official stance on sales figures remains pending. Their Q3 2025 financial results, scheduled for February 4th, are anticipated to shed light on this.

BioWare has confirmed no DLC is planned for The Veilguard, shifting focus instead to Mass Effect 5, a project long teased but yet to be fully unveiled.

Busche's departure follows a period of significant change at BioWare. August 2023 saw approximately 50 layoffs, including veteran staff. These cuts coincided with an EA restructuring and rumors of potential BioWare acquisition. The decision to transition Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party publisher was also made, ostensibly to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard (previously titled Dreadwolf) in 2024 initially faced negative fan reaction, prompting a swift release of early gameplay footage. While the name change was also met with some criticism, subsequent impressions were generally more positive.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain. The success, or lack thereof, of The Veilguard, coupled with BioWare's recent restructuring, leaves fans questioning whether another sequel is in the works.
