Destiny 1 Receives Unexpected Update After Seven Years

Destiny 1's Tower Mysteriously Updated with Festive Lights

Seven years after its initial release, Destiny's iconic Tower social space has received an unexpected and unexplained update, featuring festive lights and decorations. This surprise, discovered by players on January 5th, has sparked considerable speculation within the community. The original Destiny, though still accessible, largely faded into the background following the launch of Destiny 2 in 2017.

While Destiny 2 has flourished with continuous updates and expansions, many players retain a fondness for the original game. Bungie has consistently incorporated legacy content into Destiny 2, reintroducing classic raids and exotic weapons. However, this latest development in Destiny 1 is entirely unannounced.

The unexpected decorations in the Tower resemble past seasonal events like The Dawning, featuring Ghost-shaped lights. However, unlike previous events, there are no accompanying quests, messages, or other in-game indicators. The lack of context has fueled widespread theories among players.

A Forgotten Relic of a Scrapped Event?

Reddit users, including Breshi, have suggested a connection to a cancelled event known as Days of the Dawning, originally slated for 2016. Comparison of unused assets from the scrapped event strongly resembles the current decorations in the Tower. The theory posits that a placeholder future date was mistakenly assigned to the event's removal, resulting in its unexpected reappearance.

As of now, Bungie remains silent on the matter. The year 2017 marked a significant shift for the franchise, with all live events migrating to Destiny 2. This accidental update provides a nostalgic treat for players, a fleeting moment of unexpected joy in the original game before Bungie inevitably removes it. Until then, players are encouraged to log in and experience this curious anomaly.
