In Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids, The Tournament is a thrilling challenge offering substantial XP, an achievement ("Test Your Might"), and intense combat. This guide details how to conquer The Tournament and claim your reward.
Locating The Tournament

The Tournament quest is initiated by Gyoji, a resident of Yamato, likely after assassinating several Shinbakufu members. He'll await you outside his hideout, ready to discuss the tournament. This hidden arena lies within the Ominesanji Temple in southeastern Yamato. For easy access, synchronize the Ominesanji Overlook viewpoint west of the temple to create a fast travel point. This is highly recommended for convenient return trips and character switching. Speak to Gyoji again at the temple; he'll explain the four one-on-one duels followed by a final champion. Ring the bell to begin your first fight.
Conquering The Tournament
The Tournament presents a series of intense, life-or-death duels. Fortunately, you can rest between each fight—simply ring the bell to start the next. Use this time wisely to heal with rations, upgrade weapons and armor, and strategize.
For optimal success, we recommend using a long katana as Yasuke, mastering dodge and parry to create enemy vulnerabilities. Utilize abilities like Power Dash and Payback whenever your adrenaline allows. Knowing each opponent's weapon is key.
Here's a breakdown of the tournament fighters:
- Lady Masago: Uses a Naginata.
- Lord Suguru: Uses a Katana.
- Lord Hokuto: Uses a Kanabo.
- Lady O-Sen: Uses two Poison Katanas and throws ranged items.
- Lord Unkai: Uses a Naginata and can heal by drinking if you remain distant for a few seconds.
After the final duel, speak with Gyoji atop the hill. He'll express his gratitude, promising further tournaments. The "Test Your Might" trophy should unlock during this conversation.
Optimal Loadout and Skills

The Long Katana is your best weapon. Upgrade it to the highest level possible at your hideout's blacksmith, adding engravings that boost armor damage or piercing. Your armor choice is crucial; it enhances health and provides combat-altering engraving abilities.
Before the Tournament, acquire the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend (from defeating "The Ox" Shinbakufu) and Protector's Armor (from completing a castle). The Daimyo Armor provides a 75% damage increase (but reduces health to 25%), while Protector's Armor allows parrying unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings creates a devastating combination.
Maximize your Mastery points in the Long Katana and Samurai skill trees, focusing on Combat Expert (increased melee damage) and unlocking Power Dash and Payback.
