While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM games. Good news! A recent update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation has significantly enhanced the experience.
This update boasts improved technical stability and more. Crucially, it now supports multiplayer modifications. For compatibility, mods must be built using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative gameplay is enhanced with shared item pickups and an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Multiplayer network code has also received optimization. The mod loader's capacity has been increased, now handling significantly more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer unprecedented customization options, exceeding those of previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the commitment to accessibility.
Players will have extensive control, adjusting enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and even broader game mechanics like tempo, enemy aggression, and parry timing. Stratton confirms that prior DOOM experience, including DOOM: Eternal, isn't required to understand the narrative of DOOM: The Dark Ages.
