Idris Elba Wants a Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action Movie With Keanu Reeves

Cyberpunk 2077’s Idris Elba Hopes For Cyberpunk Live-Action With Keanu Reeves

Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has publicly expressed his strong desire for a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film, ideally starring himself and Keanu Reeves. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, promoting his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he shares the screen with Reeves), Elba enthusiastically stated that a live-action adaptation featuring both himself and Reeves would be incredible. He believes their characters would create a truly electrifying on-screen dynamic.

Elba's enthusiasm isn't unfounded. Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is indeed under development, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the live-action Witcher series suggests a Cyberpunk adaptation is a viable and potentially lucrative venture.

For those unfamiliar, Reeves portrayed the iconic Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, while Elba played Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty expansion. The potential pairing of these two characters on the big screen has clearly captured the imagination of fans and the actors themselves.

Beyond the live-action film, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched, focusing on Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also slated for 2025, and CD Projekt Red has hinted at a new animated series in the works.
