Mastering Minecraft Campfires: Extinguishing and Acquisition
The Minecraft Campfire, introduced in version 1.14, is a versatile block with uses beyond simple decoration. It can damage mobs, create smoke signals, cook food, and even soothe bees. This guide details methods for extinguishing a Campfire and obtaining one.
Extinguishing a Campfire
Three methods exist for putting out a Minecraft Campfire:
-
Water Bucket: The simplest method involves using a water bucket to waterlog the block containing the Campfire.
-
Splash Water Potion: A Splash Water Potion, thrown onto the Campfire, will also extinguish the flames. Note that this requires gunpowder and glass, making it less efficient in the early game.
-
Shovel: The least-known, yet most cost-effective, method is using any shovel (even a wooden one). Right-click (or use the left trigger on consoles) on the Campfire with the equipped shovel to extinguish it.
Acquiring a Campfire
Campfires can be obtained in several ways:
-
Natural Generation: Explore Taiga and Snowy Taiga villages, and Ancient Cities. Remember, harvesting a pre-placed Campfire requires a tool with the Silk Touch enchantment; otherwise, you'll only receive coal (two in Java Edition, four in Bedrock Edition).
-
Crafting: Craft a Campfire using sticks, wood, and either charcoal or soul sand. Soul sand creates a Soul Fire Campfire.
-
Trading: Trade emeralds with an apprentice-level fisherman. The cost is five emeralds in Bedrock Edition and two in Java Edition.
