Rebel Wolves, a studio formed by ex-CD Projekt RED developers, recently unveiled their debut title, The Blood of Dawnwalker, in a captivating livestream. The stream showcased a four-minute cinematic trailer, serving as the game's dramatic opening sequence, setting the stage for this dark fantasy action RPG.
Set in a 14th-century alternate Europe, The Blood of Dawnwalker follows Coen, a young man thrust into a supernatural struggle after the events depicted in the trailer. Gifted with newfound abilities, he faces a desperate race against time – just 30 days and nights – to rescue his loved ones from a vampiric threat. While time only progresses during specific gameplay moments, careful management will be crucial to success.
Coen's journey is fraught with moral dilemmas. He must grapple with the temptation to embrace his dark, vampiric nature or cling to his humanity, a choice that profoundly impacts both gameplay and the narrative. A core mechanic, Blood Hunger, adds another layer of tension. Coen must feed to maintain control; failure to do so risks unleashing his inner beast, potentially leading to tragic consequences and altering the course of the story.
Players will explore richly detailed environments, with dynamic changes influenced by the time of day. The developers describe the open world as a "narrative sandbox," offering extensive freedom and opportunities for player agency.
Developed over two years using Unreal Engine 5, The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. While a release date remains unannounced, the impressive reveal certainly generates considerable anticipation.
