Bandai Namco has announced the imminent shutdown of PAC-MAN Mobile, a surprising move as the iconic game celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. This beloved version of the game, which hit the mobile scene over a decade ago, is set to close its doors permanently.
When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is scheduled for May 30th, 2025. As part of the wind-down process, in-app purchases were discontinued as of April 1st. Players can continue enjoying the game until the final day, so if you're still a fan, make sure to savor those last moments.
The community has voiced considerable disappointment over Bandai Namco's decision to shut down the game completely rather than transitioning it to an offline mode. Many fans feel that an offline version would have been a welcome solution, potentially generating ongoing revenue for the company.
PAC-MAN Mobile, originally launched as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered more than just the classic arcade experience. It included the nostalgic 8-bit arcade mode, as well as a Story Mode featuring numerous original mazes. Additionally, the game introduced an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events, allowing players to earn exclusive skins. The competitive spirit was kept alive through the Tournament Mode, which provided weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels. Players could also customize PAC-MAN, the ghosts, the joystick, and more with a variety of skins.
The Reason
The decision to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile likely stems from the game's mounting technical issues. Over the years, the game has suffered from numerous bugs and problems, which may have been a significant factor in the choice to discontinue it.
I recall the excitement during the early years of its Android launch, where players were intensely focused on achieving high scores and climbing leaderboards. Those were indeed fun times for the community.
If you're keen on experiencing PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before it's gone, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
